Universal Design

Multiple uses. One chair provides a variety of solutions--meeting spots, multipurpose rooms, workstation guest seating, drop-in and hoteling workstations, conference rooms, team areas, break-out spaces, and training areas.

Multiple places. Caper works in the office and beyond--retail, hospitality, education, health care, and recreational environments.

Multiple users. One chair fits all kinds of different people as it supports many different work styles.

Lean, Lightweight, Agile

Easy to move. Caper chairs weigh about half as much as competitive models.

Simple to stack. A stack of 6 chairs on the floor can be easily rolled into action or into storage; up to 15 chairs can be stacked on the special Caper cart.

Compact size. Uses valuable floor space efficiently.

Ergonomic Support

Healthful comfort. The contoured, flexible seat and back evenly distribute weight, minimize pressure points, and let the user move freely.

Aeration. The seat and back are perforated with small holes to help keep the sitter cool.

Advanced materials. Seats are available with FLEXNET, a strong, breathable suspension material that enhances comfort and distributes weight evenly.

Aesthetics

Light and clean. Fits in without dominating the look or feel of a workspace.

Coordinating design. A visual companion to nontraditional work chairs; its colors and form make Caper an ideal side-chair complement to the Mirra work chair.

Fresh look. Caper's 14 colors energize the workspace; from subtle, sophisticated neutrals to saturated brights; 5 colors match the Mirra chair molded back.

Design Story

Research shows that an increasing number of people are doing more work in places other than their individual offices or workstations. Now people often work in spaces that can be used by a variety of people throughout the day. As a result, increasing demands for comfort, space efficiency, and ergonomic support are being placed on the secondary seating used in places like conference, project, training, and multipurpose rooms.

However, chairs often used in these spaces were designed for some other purpose and don't have the required capabilities, including easy mobility, light scale, compact footprint, and simple-to-use adjustments.

To develop a solution for hard-working, multiuse spaces, Herman Miller built on its extensive work chair research base and applied it to secondary seating. The result is Caper chair. It was designed by Jeff Weber, of Stumpf/Weber + Associates, using universal design principles, creating one seating product to accommodate the diversity of people, tasks, and behaviors in a multitude of areas.

Weber says the chair achieves its high level of performance and comfort by "using standard materials in novel ways." It's also delivered with integrity. In keeping with Herman Miller's commitment to environmental responsibility, Caper has a high percentage of post-consumer content and is 100 percent recyclable. And the design requires less energy and material to build and recycle.

The Caper family provides all this at an affordable price. "Too much good design seems expensive," Weber says. "I wanted to break that cliche."
