Herman Miller - Mirra chair

Mirra is an innovative blend of passive and active adjustments that provides a new reference point in performance, aesthetics, and value. Mirra automatically shapes itself to each user, while a few simple adjustments fine-tune the fit and feel. The chair's next-generation innovations, including the new upholstered backrest, all work together in a fresh-looking chair that's easy to use.

Features and Benefits

It has been established that Aeron™ is the best chair in the world. Mirra will be the best chair in its class (mid-high sector). Mirra meets the requirements of a high performance task chair effortlessly.

Key attributes

Mirra has many key attributes. It is a flexible fit and has great aesthetic appeal with a fresh new look in a wide range of colours. It allows natural movement with distributed pressure and total back support with integrated sacral support. It also provides a balanced ride from the moving spring fulcrum. Mirra is environmentally friendly and 96% recyclable.

Sizing

The Mirra is available in one size. The design of the chair and the range of adjustments means that the chair will fit 95% of the population.

Standard adjustments

The seat height can be adjusted to suit the user and the chair offers a 2:1 synchronous kinematic tilt. The tilt is controlled by a nine-turn spring tilt tension.

Optional adjustments

Three-way adjustable arms are available for height, width and angle adjustment; inward and outward. The lumbar support can also be adapted to suit the user with a height and depth range. The FlexFront™ seat depth offers 5 different positions. Also available is a three position tilt limiter and 4 degrees of forward tilt.

Materials

The Mirra has a thermoplastic polymer Triflex™ back and an elastomeric AireWeave™ mesh suspension seat.

• A Design Full of Holes
In a good way. The one-piece, frameless backrest is a polymer pierced with 567 geometric shapes to create three flex zones. Each zone provides an appropriate level of flexibility for the right ergonomic support and natural adjustment. Mirra's durable material maintains its strength and responsiveness over many years.

• Human-Centered Design
Designed to support your back while you work. The TriFlex backrest is pliable and elastic, effortlessly accommodating individual sizes, postures, and micromovements. The passive PostureFit feature keeps your lower back properly aligned, so that you stay relaxed and alert and don't slouch when you're leaning forward or working at a computer

• Get a Good Seat

The AirWeave suspension seat distributes your body pressure evenly and keeps you cool. It adjusts itself as soon as you sit. The FlexFront seat edge ensures that there's never a gap between the seat and back - it adjusts the depth of the seat without moving the seat pan - so that spine support is always there for you.

The patented Harmonic tilt mechanism keeps resistance consistent throughout the recline range, which means you always have a smooth and balanced ride and are always in control. It allows your body to pivot naturally at the ankles, knees, and hips.

Aesthetics

Two frame colours, ten AireWeave™ colours and eight back colours are available. Any combination of colours can be chosen for the customer depending on their individual requirements.

Jacket hanger for the Mirra chair.

The hanger can be quickly and easily assembled to the back of a Mirra chair without the need for any tools. The hanger clicks on, is retrofittable and is designed to form an integrated part of the chair. Once assembled, it will support the users jacket across the shoulders and neck, storing it neatly within close proximity.

Developed and tested by Herman Miller, the hanger is a moulded piece that clips around the bosses and clicks in place on the spine. Aesthetically, the hanger has been designed to form an integrated part of the overall design and maintains visual continuity throughout the office landscape. The jacket hanger will be available in G1 Graphite and ZR Shadow Grey and has a weight limit of 5kg.

Warranty

The Mirra has a 12 year warranty, five years for the AireWeave™ suspension seat and three years for the gas lift, based on 24 hour use.

Design story

When Burkhard Schmitz, Claudia Plikat, Nicolai Neubert, and Carola Zwick founded Studio 7.5 in Berlin, Germany, they were looking to work on projects that interested them and were seeking freedom from rules, roles, and titles.

When designing products for clients, Studio 7.5 moves quickly and smartly, progressing from the concept stage to the model shop, sometimes within a day or two, where they begin to create rough prototypes of the product, whatever it may be. "You really have to work in three dimensions when designing products," they say, "so we don't spend much time on fancy renderings. Computer drawings just don't give you the feel or the touch."

The joy the group derives from its work is obvious. As Burkhard, Nicolai, and Carola, who are also university professors, tell their students, "If you want to be rich, go work in a bank. If you want to be famous, go rob the bank. But if creating things is fun for you, become a designer and you'll be a king. It's the best profession in the world." Especially when you have the freedom to do it your own way.
